Students take over as city developers

High-flying students from five Coventry schools joined us to learn about the city’s heritage and help promote the new plans for its development.

Young people, from Bablake, Coundon Court, Henry VII, Sherbourne Fields and Finham Park Schools worked together on a variety of marketing and multimedia tasks to give their input on the plans recently released by the City Council.

They were joined by high-profile guests from the city, who shared their skills and experience. These included John McGuigan, Director of City Development and Acting Chief Executive; Councillor Kevin Foster, Deputy Leader of Coventry City Council; Ian Moore, Director of Development at Coventry University.

The students were tasked with developing their ideas to create flyers, posters, billboards, TV adverts and radio podcasts; all brought to life by our trainers who devised the new programme in partnership with Coventry City Council and CVOne.

The day, took place at the Herbert Art Gallery, and was the culmination of a project which saw all schools in Coventry working together on the new concepts produced by development firm Jerde.

John McGuigan told the students, “The future of the city is in your hands.  You are special people living in a special city at a special time.”

The Lord Mayor, Cllr. Andy Matchet, said, "This event is a great idea and got students connected with the city they live in. The day was an enjoyable way for students to learn about Coventry and hopefully make them proud to be Coventrians of the next generation"

We had a great time working with these future leaders and were really impressed with the inventive ideas they developed whilst working with the city’s current leaders.
